Alicia Keys to Write Music for Broadway's 'Stick Fly'

The premium cable network is adapting Stick Fly, the Broadway drama about the secrets of prejudice, hypocrisy and adultery that are exposed during an African-American family's weekend at Martha's Vineyard.

Playwright Lydia Diamond is on board to pen the HBO adaptation and executive produce alongside Alicia Keys and Nelle Nugent.

The hourlong drama, which has received a script commitment, reunites Diamond with Keys -- who produced and contributed original music -- and Nugent, whose Broadway credits include earning five straight Tony Awards for her work on Dracula, The Elephant Man, Mornings at Seven, Amadeus and Nicholas Nickeby.

Dule Hill (Psych), Mekhi Phifer (ER) and Tracie Thoms (Rent) starred in the Broadway production, which ran from November 2011-February 2012.

THEATER REVIEW: 'Stick Fly'

Diamond, who made her Broadway debut with Stick Fly, also penned productions of The Gift Horse, The Bluest Eye and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.

Stick Fly joins an HBO drama development slate that also includes a family drama about the first black president of a liberal arts college from Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Films with playwright Thomas Bradshaw (The Bereaved, Southern Promises, Job) attached to pen the script.

The network also has drama pilots The Missionary with Benjamin Walker, and James Gandolfini starrer Criminal Justice, among others.
