Californication

Neatly expressive, vaguely hungover pic of David Duchovny. One complaint -- and this is going to seem impossibly nitpicky, but I can’t help it because it bothers me every time I drive past the billboard -- it’s as if the underwater theme was an afterthought to the photo shoot. He’s underwater complete with bubbles, yet with styled/dry-looking hair. So it doesn’t look as if he’s underwater and therefore the effect feels distractingly like amateur Photoshop. So: Arresting photo, good idea, effective tagline, but I wish they went the extra mile and dunked the actor in a pool to shoot it.

Guess what, there are pictures of that shoot and he was actually in a tank underwater. But they did photo shop his hair and the cigarette I guess.

Well hells bells. David Duchovny in a tank of water. I still have to go off my reaction looking at the ad cold, since its not like viewers of the ad know the backstory. But props to Showtime for dunking Duchovny.
