What TV ads cost: NFL, 'Grey's' pricey; Leno cheap
AdAge's Brian Steinberg assembled a very interesting chart showing the current estimated price for a 30-second ad spot on every broadcast TV show on the air.
Among scripted programming, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" is the most expensive ($240,462), followed by "Two and a Half Men" ($226,635), Fox's "Family Guy" ($214,750) and "The Simpsons" ($201,920). All these prices, by and by, are lower than last year.
Some other intriguing tidbits:
-- NBC's "Sunday Night Football" $339,700 is by far most expensive weekly broadcast program for advertisers.
-- "FlashForward" ($175,724) is the most expensive freshman series.
-- Fox gets more per ad for "Til Death" ($57,413) than "Dollhouse" ($56,307) -- sad!
-- NBC's "Jay Leno Show" ($48,803 to $65,678, depending on the night of the week) is one of the cheapest shows to produce, but also has the least expensive primetime series ad rate each night among the major broadcasters.
-- The CW, which has been all about launching scripted and trendy series in recent years, gets its highest ad rates for a show that's neither -- "America's Next Top Model" ($93,342).
