'Survivor' hits season high; Fox's baseball strong
Thursday's "Survivor" hit a season high thanks to a well-publicized injury that had host Jeff Probst calling in the medics.
The unusual "Survivor" episode featured contestants being soaked in a constant downpour, an aborted immunity challenge and nobody was voted out. It was seen by 12.9 million viewers and earned a 4.0 rating among adults 18-49 and helped CBS place third for the night in the demo despite airing repeats the rest of the evening.
ABC won its fifth consecutive Thursday with "FlashForward" (9.8 million, 3.0) taking a slight dip amid a showrunner shakeup this week and critic complaints about sluggish pacing. "Grey's Anatomy" (14.7 million, 5.2) improved 4% from last week's low, though "Private Practice" (10 million, 3.7) was down a tick.
Fox's presentation of ALCS baseball posted gains, with Game 5 of Yankees vs. Angels (10.3 million, 3.3) up 27% compared to last year.
NBC is looking to pick up "Community" (5.2 million, 1.9) this week and was hoping, like with "Mercy," for a gain to tout. Unfortunately, the comedy slid 5% in these preliminaries. C'mon ratings gods, NBC isn't asking for a lot here, just an optimistic sign.
"Parks & Recreation" (5 million, 2.1) was up 5% and is likely to get its back-nine order, fan consensus seems to be the show has really improved this season. "The Office" (8.5 million, 4.2) was up a tick and "30 Rock" (6.7 million, 3.2) climbed from its premiere last week, up 7%. "Jay Leno Show" (5 million, 1.6) was down 11%, though with Fox's highly rated baseball likely a factor. The CW aired repeats.
