Heather Locklear returning to 'Melrose Place'

Locklear

Amanda Woodward to the rescue.

After airing two "Melrose Place" episodes to lackluster ratings, The CW has signed Heather Locklear to join the update of the TV title she starred in during the 1990s.

Locklear played scheming Amanda in the original version, which she joined at the end of the first season. She will make her first appearance on the show Nov. 17.

“We’re ecstatic to have the chance to bring Amanda Woodward back to ‘Melrose Place,’” said executive producers Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer. “Heather’s involvement in the show is something we’ve been working on for some time as we couldn’t imagine creating and producing this show without the iconic character’s inclusion.”

Unsure if The CW's ongoing fascination with bringing back older TV titles and their original actors really helps the network's mission to exclusively target women 18-34; seems as if fresher, younger-skewing efforts like "Vampire Diaries" are a better bet.
