Video: 'Hell's' contestant tries to fight Gordon Ramsay
In the July 21 sixth season premiere of Fox's "Hell's Kitchen," an ex-Marine contestant asks Gordon Ramsay to step outside. Contestant Joseph conflicts with the shouty chef from the outset, refusing to eat an undercooked vegetable without a fork ("I'm not an animal") and grimacing at the prospect of a luxurious seaside reward lunch ("This isn't what I'm here for"). But after performing as one of the best players on the men's team, Joseph wigs when Ramsay makes his usual simple request to name two of his teammates for elimination. Contestants have stood up to Ramsay's bullying before, but not like this. The following clip is the best I could wrangle (all-too-brief), but will give you an idea of what will be a talked-about confrontation:
The two-hour premiere is great, btw. "Hell's" continues to be one of the most underrated reality shows in terms of editing and production. Turning a bunch of wannabe chefs who stand around a kitchen and cook for a few hours into an emotionally escalating horror-movie-style trainwreck every episode is no easy trick. It's unfortunate that U.S. viewers see only the censored version since the ridiculous profanity from contestants and Ramsay provides much of the show's humor.
