First look: ABC's 'Shark Tank' (video)

Shark tank Here's a first look Mark Burnett's update of the international hit "Dragon's Den." His ABC version, "Shark Tank," is undergoing some minor tweaking; mostly cosmetic changes to the set, which has an "evening news" look in this pilot video clip.

"Tank" shows a lot of potential. The format of entrepreneurs pitching business ideas to a panel of merciless investors works here, just as it does in the UK and Canada and other territories. ABC has added brief looks at each pitchman's home life, which doesn't add any information, but might make you feel more emotionally invested in their fate.

You can feel the network trying to make this show bigger, but the format is what it is ... the question with "Tank" has never been if the show works, but if a large enough U.S. audience will embrace a non-flashy concept that finds human drama in business negotiations. "I like it but I'm not sure other people will like it," is a common reaction to the show. By launching "Tank" on its fall schedule, ABC is going all-in. Here's the clip:
