Monday ratings: ABC's best in a year
ABC won Monday night thanks to "Bachelorette" (7.9 million viewers, 2.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) climbing a bit and the season finale of "Here Come the Newlyweds" (5 million, 2.0). This matched ABC's best summertime Monday night in a year.
"Newlyweds" climbed a few rungs for its send off and it's tough to say if the show is a candidate to return next year. Its numbers were entirely non-embarrassing and even won its time period last night, but a network typically aims for higher.
NBC's "Great American Road Trip" (3.3 million, 0.9), however, did embarrass. The second episode fell 31% from what wasn't a stellar debut to begin with.
So ABC won in the demo, CBS was second in demo but first among total viewers with repeats ("Two and a Half Men" tying "Bachelorette" as the top-rated show). Repeat-filled Fox tied NBC for third. In addition to "Road Trip," NBC also aired a repeat and "Dateline" (5.3 million, 1.4).
Notice I haven't mentioned the CW in awhile? Well, since we're talking embarassing vs. non, the network has been in almost all repeats this summer and last night averaged a 0.2 with encores of "One Tree Hill" and "Gossip Girl." You don't need a ratings reporter to tell you which category that falls in, right?
