'Kings' writer doesn't blame NBC (much)

Those who caught the final few hours of NBC's "Kings" saw a doomed series that was finding its creative footing, with some nicely dramatic moments and intriguing setup for a second season ... that will never happen.

Showrunner Michael Green posted a letter to fans of the show, emphasizing that "Kings" really is canceled and debunking fan rumors that the religious content was an issue.

As for NBC, which launched the drama on the difficult Sunday night and then moved the program to the dead zone of Saturdays, Green seemed to have mixed feelings:

"Even if it is tempting to trash NBC, we do owe them gratitude," he wrote. "Writing, acting, filming is about the work, not the reward, and NBC allowed us to make the best possible show we could ... Many involved with the show felt wronged by our network, or at least scuttled. I personally don't feel I have enough information to know precisely what led to our failure to achieve ratings success -- though I believe that had the show been given a better launch, the outcome would have been something to celebrate ... To those who thought Saturday nights was a terrible time slot, you are correct. That move was the first step of cancellation. Once that decision was made, no attempts would be made to 'save' or promote the show in any way. It was already over then."
