No bull: Campbell Brown returns to fourth place
Campbell Brown returned from maternity leave Monday to place fourth in the ratings and down double digits from her previous performance average.
Brown sported a new program name -- now just "Campbell Brown" instead of "Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull" and pulled 711,000 viewers and 200,000 in the adults 25-54 demo last night, which also happened to be CNN's 29th birthday. The episode featured an interview with former president Jimmy Carter.
The ratings are down 32% and 36%, respectively, compared to Campbell's pre-leave average this year. It's also down 21% and 22% for the time slot so far this year, including Roland Martin's time spent substituting for Campbell since she left in March. Brown was up 12% and 26%, though, when compared the CNN's May average with Martin in the slot.
By comparison, Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" pulled 3.6 million (855,000 in the demo), MSNBC's "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" earned 1.2 million (384,000) and Headline News' "Nancy Grace" had 919,000 (359,000).
“To gauge a cable news program’s performance on one single day vs. a year to date average, is just goofy," said a CNN spokesperson.
