Highest-rated Tony Awards in three years; NBA rules Sunday
ABC's coverage of the NBA Finals topped Sunday night while CBS' presentation of the 63rd annual Tony Awards earned its strongest ratings performance in three years.
Early numbers for Game 2 of the basketball finals show about 11.2 million viewers and a 4.7 adults 18-49. That's a slight increase from the early rating garnered by Thursday's Game 1 (a game that rose to a 5.4 in the nationals this weekend).
As award shows go, the Tonys are always a modestly rated event. Though this year was no exception, CBS' coverage (7.5 million, 1.3) was up 18% from last year to mark the gala's strongest performance in three years.
The most talked-about moment from the awards came during the opening number, where Bret Michaels was knocked flat by a piece of the stage (video here).
