'Reaper' could live -- in syndication
The CW's struggling Reaper could survive to a third season after all, thanks to the network giving Sunday nights back to affiliates.
The network is facilitating talks between its stations and Reaper producer ABC Studios about the show possibly being used in syndication to fill a spot on Sundays.
The show has averaged about a 1.0 rating this season and stands as the network's lowest-rated drama. Most, the Feed included, had written the show off, aided by a complete lack of optimism from involved parties. But with programming on Sundays averaging below a 0.5 in recent weeks, stations figure Reaper could potentially improve a slot. The move would also keep Sundays a little bit CW-ish instead of going off into an entirely different orbit.
In the past week, several cult-TV favorites have been getting second looks for a pickup despite their numbers -- NBC's Chuck, Fox's Dollhouse and now -- the least probable of the bunch -- Reaper. Goes to show that this year, going into the broadcast upfronts next week, anything can happen.
