NBC: 'Heroes' will return next fall

Heroes NBC plans to bring back “Heroes” for another season, said entertainment president Angela Bromstad.

The action-drama’s ratings decline has caused some media reports to speculate as to whether the show will return next fall. As part of Hollywood Reporter’s annual Q&As with the five broadcast network chiefs, Bromstad was asked if “Heroes” could be considered “on the bubble” for a renewal.

“No,” she said, and added that the network plans to order 18-20 episodes of the show for next season.

That's fewer hours than "Heroes" first (23) or current third season (25), with season two having been cut short due to the writers strike.

For all its headline-making audience erosion, “Heroes” is still tied with NBC's “The Office” as the network’s top-rated series among adults 18-49 this season.

Also being factored: NBC's pilot project “Day One,” about a group of survivors in the wake of a catastrophic global event. If the serialized “Day One” goes to series, having an established sci-fi drama like “Heroes” could help the new show in a few ways, including possibly airing as part of the same Monday night block.

"'Day One' is a big event and we're looking at that to come into the 'Heroes' spot," Bromstad said. "It's right now being looked at as a 13-episode run -- something people could commit to and we could make a big splash with."

If “Day One” does launch in the “Heroes” time period, “One” would get the advantage of its strong sci-fi-established slot for a number of weeks. With a slightly shorter episode order, “Heroes” can then continue its usual pattern of airing with few breaks by virtue of debuting later in the season. A second potential home for “Day One" is on Sundays, she said, where quasi-futuristic “Kings” will premiere March 15.

Another point in “Heroes” favor is the show performs well internationally. Bromstad said she experienced the drama's global popularity first-hand in her previous NBC post, heading the network’s international efforts based in London.

"Every single place you go has heard about 'Heroes' -- whether you’re in China or Japan or Russia," she said. "And to me, that is global content."

The network has privately discussed setting a series end date for "Heroes," which would followed the creative model used with critical success by ABC's “Lost,” Sci Fi's ”Battlestar Galactica” and FX's “The Shield.” But even if NBC ever made such a move, Bromstad said, they wouldn't want to make next season the conclusion.

"Heroes" fans aren't entirely in the clear yet: a renewal isn’t a deal until it’s a deal. If the show took a sudden dire ratings turn, the network still has time to reevaluate this strategy. But barring something dramatic happening, NBC is not deterred by the current ratings and will bring back "Heroes" for a fourth round.

What does this mean for "Chuck"?

I can only hope the writers are scrambling to bring out some better scripts. I am SO disappointed with this seasons writing.

What about Chuck?

Chuck > Heroes

Yes what does this mean for chuck? Chuck >>> Heroes

No decision on "Chuck" yet... it was doing okay, but recent episodes have dropped. I suspect they want some more weeks of info before deciding, and perhaps to see how many drama pilots they're picking up...

How about less Knight Rider and more Heroes???

I know they are just trying to make a comparison on setting an end date, but it is beyond disgraceful to liken Heroes to Lost, BSG or The Shield for any reason whatsoever. Heroes is a joke.

thanks!

Why is it so dark on heroes all the time?!

Why are the writers sabotaging the show?!

No need to set an end date when you make it up as you go along right? BSG , Lost and The Shield had a formulated script that was well thought out and planned. Unlike Heroes.

Is the author dense? You can't compare the ratings of Heroes and the Office because the Office probably costs a quarter of what Heroes costs to produce.

Also, like everyone else, what about Chuck? I'm much more interested in saving that show...

Heroes is the best show ever, and Season 3 has been the icing on an already delicious cake. What are you people on?

heroes sucks. it's the hackiest shit on TV. I rather watch According to Jim... or paint dry.

lol Melissa have you seen season 1? is it anything like seasons 2 & 3? no, because back then it had great writing, good charecter developement, and great episodes. this recent season has reaped only two or three actually watchable episodes.

or have you seen any other drama tv series besides heroes? Friday Night Lights, Lost, and many other shows have not sucked completely after their first seasons.

Is there any hope for 'Life' to get a 3rd season renewal?

heroes is the best! and season 3 is really the icing on the cake...the story has evoloved beautifully...its intense and exciting!
great fun...we in Pakistan are all waiting for a season 4 and hope that it won't be the last one!

NBC plans to bring back "Heroes" for another season, ... some media reports to speculate as to whether the show will return next fall.

Yep. It's about time. For several seasons I gave this show the benefit of the doubt, but it's been a real let down recently. Pathetically, I'm still going to watch it.

I for one, love Heroes and have watched since the pilot. Regardless of what the majority of you seem to think, it's still a good show in the face of the retarded reality shows that seem to be all over my guide!

Heroes is an amazing show and at the end of every episode, (granted some moreso than others), I find myself looking forward to the following Monday to see what happens next. The one thing that is really ticking me off is the absence of Hiro from the past 2 episodes...I just love his character. Another thing I'd like to see is the return of powers to Peter and Hiro...imho, they shouldn't have taken them for this long...but overall, still one of my favs!

Heroes is the best sci-fi show on t.v rite now, its funny action packed and has a deeper meaning in every episode. all u people who are hating off heroes probly have only watched a couple of episodes and made ur judgement. every mon. i look forward 2 seing heroes. u people should watch the whole story b4 u judge. p.s Heroes > Chuck

Heroes > Chuck. what is wrong with all of you?

Heroes is still the best TV show ever. The ratings mean nothing since people can watch it on the internet or download it from iTunes. Next episode is going to be awesome because one of the original writers of heroes from season 1 will be writing the rest of the episodes.

Heroes is a pretty good show. The third season hasn't been nearly as good as 1 and 2. Seasons 1 and 2 were equally as good as each other in my mind. I don't know exactly where they are going in season 3..?.?.
Oh and BTW, BSG is the best sci-fi series on tv right now...too bad the series finale is the end of it this week. That show has kept its integrity and not lost sight of the overall picture. Great show all around.

I Too enjoy watching Hereos every monday but i would have to say with all the commercials that are on NBC i would almost rather watch it on the internet there is only one 30 second commercial for ever 5 or 6 skits. I have not had the pleasure of watching BSG so have no real comment about it but i have been able to watch Chuck and i am going with Heroes > Chuck. I would have to say that Hereos has lost something since the first season though.

Heroes is an awesome show!!! It just brings good lines and scenes that makes you wonder what will happen next!

Parkman looks so funny when looks at people and tell them what to do

heroes is definitely better than most other shows. sure season 1 was the best but season 3 is great too. it is getting complicated with intricate plots. i think those of you who hate it are just too dense to appreciate the plot line because it is really too smart to match you.

I take offense to the fact that anybody can find Heroes superior to Chuck. Season one is fantastic in every way, but it just goes downhill from there. Chuck delivers every week with a great episode.

Heroes can't. Its not funny, its not deep, and most of all, its not fun to watch. The opposite of Chuck.

Chuck deserves a renewal more than Heroes ever has.

In short, did you guys take your crazy pills the morning? Obviously not.

Chuch is the best show to come to NBC in a while. It should stay on for season 3. Chuck> every other NBC show

i honestly think they should only have a 3 week break for heroes, and by the way does anyone know when heroes is coming back for season 5? :) and the funny thing is my name is not pamela petrelli so dont even ask, k? lmfaooo! I LOVE HEROESSSSS!<3333333333

heroes truely is an amazing show and i think if the writers and directors keep to the whole importance of the show and keep it interesting then people will watch. some shows throughout some seasons were off topic. i mean i still watch cause i love the charcaters and the show is still interesting.

Heroes was done creatively 3 years ago. This is further proof that NBC has monkeys running it.
Bring Back Chuck.
