'Jericho' lives -- as comic book
"If they draw us, do we still get paid?"
After a year of begging for more "Jericho," fans are going to get their wish ... kind of. The canceled CBS show will return as a comic book.
Devil’s Due Publishing has made a deal with CBS Consumer Products to publish a “Jericho” comic that picks up where the cult-favorite series left off. The project pledges to answer many of the story’s lingering questions and is aimed at appealing to the show’s famously devoted fans.
"’Jericho’ is alive and well, thanks to the amazing fans who’ve driven us to find new and fresh ways to tell the Jericho story,” said Dan Shotz, co-executive producer of the show. “Josh Blaylock and the DDP team are great partners and have shown a true love for our show. We are so thrilled about this comic book series and the endless possibilities for the future of ‘Jericho.’”
The series’ original producer team will be involved in the comic. Shotz is developing the project along with Jon Turteltaub, Carol Barbee, Karim Zreik and Jon Steinberg.
Coincidentally, today the news broke that "Jericho" star Skeet Ulrich might return to CBS, he's been cast in the network's drama pilot "Back."
“Jericho,” the story of a Kansas town in the aftermath of a nuclear war, premiered on CBS in 2006. After the first season ended in a dramatic cliffhanger, the network canceled the show, then made the unusual decision to reverse their decision -- partly based on an unprecedented amount of fan protest. CBS brought back the show for seven episodes that helped tie up some, but not all, of the loose ends. The network canceled the show permanently, yet fans didn’t give up. “Jericho Rangers” have continued sending peanuts to media organizations as protest, buying billboards and even on-air ads trying to convince somebody to pick up the show.
“I can't tell you how cool it is for DDP to be able to continue the ‘Jericho’ story in comic book form,” says Josh Blaylock, Devil’s Due president. “We plan to give fans the story they’ve been craving. This is going to be epic stuff.”
