'Apprentice' stumbles; 'Housewives' matches low
With clocks leaping forward an hour Sunday, most primetime shows gave weaker-than-usual performances.
The second episode of "Celebrity Apprentice" dropped a sharp 21% from last week's debut. The two-hour reality show (7.6 million viewers, 3.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and 8 share) placed second in its time period, while ABC topped the night with its drama block. Daylight Savings Time is likely only partly to blame for the show's decline -- last year, the first few weeks after the time change dropped viewing levels about 5%.
ABC aired a season low "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," (9.4 million, 2.9/8) followed by "Desperate Housewives" matching its series low (13.5 million, 4.6/11) and an on par edition of "Brothers & Sisters" (10.5 million, 3.5/9).
CBS was second in the adult demo but first among total viewers. "The Amazing Race" (10.2 million, 3.0/8) held steady, followed by a strong "Cold Case" (12.6 million, 3.0/7) and "The Unit" (9.4 million, 2.3/6).
NBC placed third with a "Saturday Night Live" special (6 million, 2.1/6) leading in to "Apprentice."
Fox was fourth with modest outings of "The Simpsons" (6 million, 2.8/8), "King of the Hill" (4.9 million, 2.4/6), "Family Guy" (7.2 million, 3.7/9) and "American Dad" (5.3 million, 2.7/6).
Speaking of "Apprentice," NBC did its blurring-the-line-between-entertainment-and-promotion thing again this weekend on "Saturday Night Live." Tough to see SNL doing this softball parody of an "Apprentice" promo if the reality show was on another network:
