New Live Feed mobile version and newsletter
There's new subscription options for The Live Feed: a mobile-friendly version and an auto-generated daily newsletter.
Both of these are still in beta (meaning: I'm still messing around with them and not really satisfied). But for those looking to bookmark a version of the blog's homepage on their Blackber
ry that loads quicker than the regular site, go here. To cut and paste the link, the URL is http://www.thrfeed.com/mobile.html (don't forget the "html" or you get something else).
Longtime readers know there's a Hollywood Reporter newsletter signup here where you can get the Live Feed's morning ratings. I've now added a daily email here that sends subscribers all the Live Feed headlines from the prior 24 hours.
I might upgrade the newsletter to a different service I'm testing in a few weeks (I don't like that it sends an update on weekends, or the email's generic subject line and Google ads), so you may receive a transfer message at some point if the service provider changes. You can always find both the mobile link and all subscribe options under the "Subscribe" header to your right.
Some other new features I've recently added: The "most popular" widget (love the percentages -- there's nothing more humbling to a journalist than seeing your latest hard-fought scoop getting 0.46% of your blog's traffic while an "Saturday Night Live" video of Alec Baldwin playing with Wii is pulling down 80%). And the "Hollywood Reporter TV News" ticker on the lower right, for keeping up with the latest breaking TV news. (Fellow blog publishing nerds: The Live Feed is housed on the stripped-down Typepad platform instead of plugin-friendly WordPress, which makes adding these sort of features sort of like trying to explore an unfamiliar city by constructing your own car from scratch instead of simply renting one).
There's more improvements to come. In the blog's 10-month history, February was another record high, clocking 1.5 million page views. Thank you all for reading. Feel free to drop me an email if you have opinions on the changes, or suggestions for further improvement. -- James
