Demetri Martin debut tops Comedy Central's chart

Demitri martin ... and now here's a chart of Demetri Martin beating Jon Stewart.

Comedy Central's “Important Things With Demetri Martin" was the network's most-watched series premiere since “Chappelle’s Show” in 2003.

The comedian's Wednesday night debut (clip below) drew 2.4 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. The adult demo number was the highest since 2003's "Reno 911!" and "Things" was the fourth-highest-rated program of the night across all of cable. In fact, Martin's premiere drew bigger numbers than its lead-out, "The Daily Show" (2.3 million, 1.2), where Martin used to appear as a "youth correspondent."

Martin's chart-flipping panel session was a hit at the January press tour, though his show has since drawn pretty mixed reviews. It will be interesting to see how next week fares.

Also Wednesday: Bravo's "Top Chef" (3.3 million, 1.8) is holding its season high and topped cable. MTV's "Real World" (0.9/2) fell to a season low.

Tuesday: MTV's new lineup: "T.I.'s Road to Redemption" (1.3 million, 0.7/2) opened strong, while "From G'S to Gents" (1.3 million, 0.6/2) was down 14% from its July premiere. Over on FX, "Nip/Tuck" (2.3 million, 1.3/3) topped cable.

UPDATE: 'Top Chef' rises; Demetri Martin stumbles

Not bad!

Too bad it wasn't that good. He is a funny guy, but I don't see this lasting.

He's a decent comedian, but he should really stick to standup.

That show kind of sucked - let's see if he gets anywhere near that many views on the next episode...

all the ads helped too

This guy has perfected an image without any investment in substance. Unfortunately, he has sycophantic fans who will love anything he does, no matter how crappy it is. The show sucked.

i think its about time they brought dave chappelle back because all these new shows are bad and all the old shows aren’t consistanatly funny anymore. The only shows i watch from comedy central now are the daily show and the colbert report and even then each show is a hit or miss. dave chappelle was and still is the best comedian on t.v and comedy central should realize they could never replace a comic genius like him….even though they tried many times.

Yeah how could people watch this? I mean it was terrible, along the lines of cartoon network at night geez I don't understand the tv tastes of people today...

Ok, your problems are that yall prefer to see and hear jokes aimed at a certain group of people (that aren't you) and you need vulgarity and a false bravado for a guy/girl who is wigged out on the lastest drug craze to find anything they say funny.
Another problem is, unlike some of yall, this guy's made it through college and most of law-school. He's intelligent and his intellectual and factual jokes go right over your heads.
I thought his shows were generally funny and I got a good laugh at least once every Wed. night. Do I agree that at times there had been better? Yes; from him and other comedians. Do I agree that his stand-up was better then his show? Of course; he's a stand-up comedian naturally, but I do feel he was genuine and humorous.
Oh, and a question for all you bad-mouthers... Haven't yall learned that if you can't say anything nice, to just not say anything at all? Seriously...
&FYI: How original can you get once everything's been done before? Mental note, it's 2009. Comedy has been around for many, many years. Geesh...

Oh, I hope there's another season! I thought it was hilarious, he's one of the best comics alive. (There were better, but they're dead.)

there's? there will be? i'm tired, too tired for grammar.
