NBC: 'Heroes' safe (for now)
TCA -- "Heroes" need not worry about cancellation this season, says NBC's president of primetime entertainment, Angela Bromstad.
The NBC drama has gone from one of the network's top-rated programs to approaching worrisome ratings territory during the past few months, especially given the show's price tag.
" 'Heroes' is very secure," she says. "We have a great relationship with Tim Kring ... what’s important is we never lose sight of being responsible in production. And television is about the characters and the writing, and we want to make sure that that show is on track. But very secure. I think that what Tim is interested in doing is getting back to the core of the show and that it's these ordinary people with extraordinary powers and that they may have taken on too much in terms of characters and multiple storylines."
Bromstad notes the show "may have taken on too much, in multiple storylines" in the recent future. She also refused to proclaim "Lipstick Jungle" dead, though its ratings suggest otherwise.
"I think that there are alternatives that we may look into for 'Lipstick Jungle,'" she said. "It's all conversation for fall, and we have to wait and see what our pilots are and what the mix of shows are."
Bromstad was is uncertain about the fate of "Knight Rider," and "Kath & Kim."
"Those were fair tries," she says. "Obviously, in the ratings, they're not holding up. And that's indicative that those are shows that may or may not come back."
