« Weekly ratings: CBS extends win; NFL boosts NBC | Main | 'Momma's' debuts; CBS has best Tuesday in years »

Will viewers watch NBC's 'Momma's Boys'?

It would be nice to predict an NBC recovery starting tonight, but it's doubtful. You're not going to get many male viewers with a dating show called "Momma's Boys." And its format could alienate women despite targeting them. Shows like ABC's "The Bachelor" provide fantasy fulfillment. You have Cinderellas competing for a handsome prince, or vice versa. But grown men with clingy, overprotective mothers who make decisions in their love lives are not very attractive/sympathetic. Top that with the whole racism angle -- which apparently isn't some mistaken byproduct of the production but manufactured during the show's casting -- and you have a high ick-factor. The reviews, averaging a score of 18 out of 100 on Metacritic, aren't so hot either.

All that said, "Boys" has one of the best reality lead-ins possible -- the season finale of NBC's stalwart hit "The Biggest Loser." The show could pop its premiere with curiosity tune-in. But strong performances in the coming weeks seem unlikely.

[In meetings Wednesday morning, ratings coming shortly]

I would just like to know how NBC could allow the program "Mama's Boys" to air knowing that it contained such demeaning and racist remarks by one of the mother's.Does this world need more anti-semitism and racism? If it's just a ploy to attract viewer's, I am sure there is a better way. That woman was despicable.

NBC is dying a slow death Gail, there is no saving it with programming like this.

I love it !!!! Keep up the great job cant wait to see the "The Bachelor" . Love it !!!
Love Jennifer

I believe that is the way a lot of people think...I am First Nations and have worked in different fields and have heard it all...It is a reality but people don't like to admit it.
I don't agree of course of racism, bigots, but they are out there.

I watch the show with my husband, and we love it.
The whole racism thing is real, a number of mothers and fathers do feel that way. In fact, it is on both side of the coin.

My 6 year old had a crush on a cute little white boy, so if she brings one home to meet Daddy in 20 years, I won't be surprised.

But it is good reality TV. The AA girls swore they were going to be cool and look what happened they lost it. They just solidified why she doesn't want a AA daughter in law.

I can't wait to see the episode when the mom says "Don't you put those lips on my son"
