'Prison Break,' 'Rosie,' 'Enemy' update

-- Rumblings of the primetime apocalypse continue: THR reports that the end could be near for "Prison Break."

-- With "My Own Worst Enemy" departing, fans keep e-mailing about the recent pickup of "Knight Rider" -- pointing out that it has a lower rating than "Enemy." Yeah, sure, but what are you gonna do? NBC made the pickup decision when "Rider" had a 2.4, and is doing its best to improve the show.

-- What series will go in the "Enemy" slot? No word yet. "Enemy" is still airing Monday. Fans are guessing "Medium," which is a good guess. "Kings" would be ideal for the post-"Heroes" slot, but NBC probably doesn't want to launch it right before the holidays.

-- NBC announced this morning that Kathy Griffin, Jane Krakowski and Alanis Morissette will appear on Rosie O'Donnell's upcoming NBC variety special "Rosie Live" on Nov. 26. It's like some ill-conceived "Saturday Night Live" skit about a faux cable network -- ShrewTV. It's tough to imagine a more intentionally grating collection of oft-bitter-acting personalities. To avoid seeming gender unbalanced, NBC should enlist Danny Bonaduce, Dane Cook and Joe Francis for an obnoxious male douchebag version. Given the recent performance of "Rider" in the slot, however, a failure by "Rosie" to improve the time period will be difficult.

Re: Rosie. Um, straight men under 60 don't watch network TV variety programs. They are watching poker on ESPN, cartoons on CN, ten-year-old one-star movies on Comedy Central, fantasy killing on video games, or porn on their computers. Females will flock to an estrogen-fest. Fans of the "View" and rosie.com will tune in. Adding second-rate (heck even first rate) male comedians may provide "balance" but that's hardly the target audience.

Re: SanDiegoinExile

Don't speak for all men, please. A lot of men will watch either to please their girlfriends, or cause their to old for cartoons, or cause they think poker is boring, or they don't play video games, or they already watched porn, or don't want to watch the movie on Comedy Central. What you are doing is stereotyping and generalizing over 100 million people. Don't: just because a lot of men won't doesn't mean every man won't. Oh and I am talking about straight men, not gay men. Though I'm pretty sure lots of gay men do watch poker, cartoons (I bet more gay adult men watch CN than adult straight males), movies on Comedy Central, fantasy killing on video games, or porn.

Re: Replacing My Own Worst Enemy: maybe it'll be Momma's Boys. http://thefutoncritic.com/guide.aspx?id=winter_2009

Maybe not.

James, really.

Comparing any of those women to a scumbo like Francis is just low.

I dunno Joe Bua. Have you seen "Riding the Bus With My Sister"?

In seriousness: you may have a point. I suspect my intense dislike of Cook and Griffin skewed my sense of proportion. Instead of Francis, I should have picked somebody with fewer felony charges. Consider me chastised.

I don't like Joe Bua's blog

Kings After Heroes would be The Black Donnellys all over again. Remember how that turned out? Studio 60 got better ratings then that show did during its run. ouch!

can nbc steal Law and Order Criminal Intent away from USA??? I ask this because i seem to recall that airing two or three times after Heroes in May of '07---mostly because they were desperete to put something in there since both Black Donnellys and Studio 60 had collapsed and they needed a time filler and quick.

see this right here is why ABC keeps renewing According To Jim. Perfect Time slot filler at your beck and call.
