'South Park' takes on Barack Obama

UPDATED: That was fast.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have always turned around "South Park" episodes with impressive speed, but Wednesday night was ridiculous.

The latest "Park" was entirely about Barack Obama and John McCain -- post election.

Though much of the content could have prepared in advance, the opening was directly from Obama's Grant Park acceptance speech Tuesday night (complete with those unsettling bulletproof walls). There was also a segment from John McCain's concession speech.

"We've only ever worked on an Obama version," said Parker and Stone via email, when asked if they prepped two versions in case McCain won. "We followed Vegas odds. If McCain would have won we would have been screwed. It would have been our 'Dewey defeats Truman' moment."

In a nod to the timeliness, the episode was titled "About Last Night."

More clips after the jump...

Here's police breaking up an Obamania street party...

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference 'South Park' takes on Barack Obama:

Parker and Stone did not depict the celebrations well. I couldn't tell if the characters were having any fun.

Love South Park those guys are the most talented in Hollywood i/m/o. If you look at most of the movies coming out of Hollywood today, in two hours time, they don't have half the laughs these guys can get in a 30 minute show. Always topical too. Love those guys!!

Arthur do you not associate dancing, beer kegs and Kool & the Gang's "Celebration" with...well...celebration?

I didn't really get the impression that Stone and Parker were mocking Obama so much. The episode felt more like they were mocking the entire situation, to say they singled out Obama is to ignore everything that happened after the first two minutes.

Yea, I agree with Jim. I didn't see the show as mocking, it did mock the whole election. It was a funny episode. Kinda tasteful they could have gone way way in the deep end.

Updated the story. Also, yeah, you're right about the headline. It was originally supposed to be "South Park mocks Obamanaia" but that was pretty lousy for Google. Tweaked it.

Freaking Hilarious....Ocean 11ish plot was awesome!!!
These guys kick ass!

LMAO, they're always on top of things. The best show around.

I'm generally a big South Park fan. This = not so good.

Bulletproof walls? Unless I'm missing something, those are just teleprompters:

haha "GAME OVER MAN!" Hudson

Thats probably the funniest thing ive seen South Park do, total rip of the US elections.... FTW

The point Matt and Trey are trying to make here is that it's a a scam, a clever ruse.

Thus the Oceans 11 storyline.

Did none of you get that?

LOL, Priceless! I love Southpark

Sorry Dan. Was actual walls protecting him election night.

I wanted to go to South Park to attend the celebration, but I live in Tokyo of Japan now, so I could not go there.
But as I have been a suporter,so I can watch the various sceens about Obama by PC.
I am very happy that Obama could be elected President
of America.

I think that joke about Obama's grandmother was in bad taste!

@ the bullet proof walls, the stands you linked are teleprompters, at the end of his speech the camera zoomed out further and you could see the bulletproof glass surrounding, it was on the edge of the platform probably 10-12 feet tall

Rick, I believe that's kc and the sunshine band, but im positive absolutely positive, that is not kool and the gang.

South Park has been brilliant for years and aren't in the tank for either party.

Dude wtf:

No joe? What about joe. Completely left out. Either that was the gag, or they made thing before he was picked.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are shills for the Republican party. This is farking garbage.

Should have Ayers, Reszko, Farrakahn and the rest of the terrorists show up to do something.

Omg.. I caught this as I was flipping thought the channels last night, I thought it was probably one of the best episodes ever!!! I was amazed too how fast they pulled this off, but normally they can put an episode together in 3 days.

I know that matt stone and trey parker are republicans, but I guess they couldn't help but poke fun at what was happening

Matt and Trey aren't Republicans. They are Libertarians who had the Hollywood liberals. But they've lived so long in L.A. they equate progressives across the board with the mutated brand of millionaire liberals they work with. Problem is that most liberals aren't anything like that. Rarely do they ever satirize liberalism well as well as they satirize conservatives (see: "Team America"- an otherwise hilarious movie that just falls flat with a big thud whenever they went after the Hollywood left). As much as I want to love Matt and Trey's work, I always end up just "liking" it. They are iconoclasts, and don't believe anyone's B.S. That's a makes it easy to make fun of everyone, but like conspiracy theorists believing there's hidden motives behind everything, believing everyone is full of crap means you miss the boat the times when they're not.

none of these will play!!!

"much as I want to love Matt and Trey's work, I always end up just "liking" it."

Scooby Doobie, you couldn't have summed it up better.

What I find most troubling about SP is that it tries to conceal the fact that it has a moral center. As any student of literature knows, you can't have satire without a well-defined moral center. Matt & Trey have no doubt revolutionized what can pass for humor, but they aren't quite the "equal-opportunity offenders" they portray themselves to be - and I wish they someday start disbelieving that myth about their own work.

So, we are saying that a strong moral center is a bad thing?

The comments to this story truly remind me how terribly angry people are today. What ever happened to our sense of humor? No one can make fun without "being on the side of evil" nowadays, and it is clear to me that intellect and values are devoid in the people who speak loudly in this society. Only hatred and blind neuroses are manifest. Good job, people. Thanks.

Bela

Yeah I agree with some of the posts, they should totally ban conservative point of view shows. Those who the slightest ally themselves with Evil should be banned, so our children could grow up on American Idol.

Hilarious!!!!
