CBS wins fifth Thursday in a row
For the fifth week in a row, CBS won Thursday night and narrowly edged out a surging ABC.
CBS topped the adult demo and total viewers, with tentpole "CSI" seen by 18.1 million and earning a preliminary 5.1 in the adults 18-49 rating -- up slightly from last week. The "CSI" gain also benefited freshman drama "Eleventh Hour" (11 million, 3.1). But at 8 p.m., "Survivor" (12.2 million, 3.8) dropped 7% this week to its lowest non-Thanksgiving Thursday telecast ever.
ABC made across-the-board gains and came within a tenth of tying CBS for the night. The network was led by "Grey's Anatomy" (15.6 million, 9.0), the highest-rated show of the evening, up a couple tenths in the adult demo this week. "Ugly Betty" (9 million, 2.7) and "Life on Mars" (8.9 million, 2.9) also grew, with "Mars" up 12%.
NBC was third, the second episode of "30 Rock" (8 million, 3.9) dropping only 5% from its series-high premiere last week, even as lead-in "The Office" (8.4 million, 4.2) fell 13%. "My Name Is Earl" (6.6 million, 2.6) gained slightly, but "Kath & Kim" (5.6 million, 2.4) remained flat. At 10 p.m., "ER" (8.6 million, 3.3) continues to win its hour.
Fox returned to all originals, airing two episodes of "Kitchen Nightmares" (averaging 4.6 million, 2.1), both outperforming last week's single original.
The CW had a boost this week, with "Smallville" (4.8 million, 2.0) up 18% and "Supernatural" (3.7 million, 1.6) climbing a notch.
