'Knight Rider' leads 8 p.m. on debate night
NBC's freshman action-drama "Knight Rider" muscled aside competitors in the 8 p.m. hour Wednesday night, winning among entertainment programming.
Most regular programming was preempted by presidential debate coverage, which also dominated the ratings. "Rider" (7.7 million viewers, 2.4 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and a 7 share) was up a notch from last week to and tied CBS' "Gary Unmarried" as the evening's highest-rated entertainment program.
CBS aired "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (7.7 million, 2.1/6) and "Unmarried" (7.7 million, 2.4/7). "Christine" declined a tenth this week, but "Unmarried" held steady.
ABC's "Pushing Daisies" (6.3 million, 1.9/6) dropped again, down a tenth to place last in the hour among the major broadcasters.
Fox opted out of debate coverage to air the final game of the National League Championship Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies (8 million, 2.6/7). Fox's rating could shift to win the 8 p.m. hour when the nationals come in.
The CW's "America's Next Top Model" (3.2 million, 1.5/4) was a recap episode.
