'Wipeout' rebounds to top Tuesday

The big question Tuesday night was whether ABC's "Wipeout" would rebound in the ratings after taking a hit last week due to Fox's presentation of the MLB All-Star Game.

Would the competition-induced dip prove temporary? Or is the summer's biggest broadcast network freshman success story starting to fade?

Once again, "Wipeout" (9.9 million viewers, 3.6 preliminary adults 18 to 49 rating and a 12 share) proved its not a one-night wonder. The show bounced back to its previous trading range to become Tuesday's highest-rated series and led ABC to an overall nightly win.

Other, mostly serialized, reality shows didn't recover so easily.

ABC’s “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” (5.7 million, 2.2/6) delivered its lowest rating yet despite lead-in “Wipeout” rising. NBC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” (7.3 million, 1.8/5) dropped a couple notches, and “America’s Got Talent” (12.9 million, 3.3/10) rebounded slightly from last week (“Talent” was also the night’s most-viewed show). CBS’ “Big Brother” (6.1 million, 2.1/6) dropped a peg from last week.

Overall, ABC won, also airing “Primetime: Family Secrets” (6.7 million, 2.2/7) which won 10 p.m.

NBC placed second with reality and a repeat. A repeat-filled Fox was third (averaging 4.5 million, 1.8/5). A largely repeat-driven CBS came in fourth (averaging 6.7 million, 1.7/5).

Small correction: Last week was the Major League Baseball All Star Game. NBA All Star game was in February.
