'Weeds' premiere sets Showtime record

Monday night’s fourth season premiere of Showtime’s "Weeds" set a ratings record for the network, with 1.3 million viewers tuning in. The series premiere of Showtime’s "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" also performed well, with 949,000 watching Sunday night’s episode. I know, who would have thought drugs and hookers would be popular, right?

The "Weeds" premiere earned mixed reviews from critics. "Call Girl" earned even mixier.

Still, the numbers continue Showtime’s ratings roll as premium network steps out of the long shadow cast by HBO. (Also, for those who haven’t checked out the “Secret Diary” nonfiction book, it’s an ideal trashy beach read.)
